Battery Cable Lug Crimping Tools — Manual, Bench & Pneumatic

Battery cable lug crimping tools for automotive, RV, equipment and workshop cable assembly. Find the right manual, bench or pneumatic tool by matching the materials already in your hand.

Have your cable and terminal? Start here.

1. Identify the terminal → 2. Read the cable size → 3. Choose how you work. Start with the connection, then compare tools.

Step 1 — What does the wire-entry end look like?

A closed tube: a tubular ring lug or splice. Check whether its manufacturer specifies hex, indent / point or trapezoid tooling.

An open U-shaped barrel with wings: compare open-barrel forming tools, including B-crimp options. Match wing dimensions and material.

A removable metal contact that inserts into a plastic housing: identify the contact part number, then compare power-contact tools. Housing name or amperage alone is insufficient.

Step 2 — Match cable marking, lug barrel and size system

Read AWG or mm² on the cable, then check lug wire size, material and suitability for the conductor’s stranding. A mounting-hole marking such as 5/16 in or 3/8 in is the stud size, not the conductor size.

1 ≠ 1/0 AWG; 4 ≠ 4/0 AWG. mm² is conductor cross-sectional area, not cable diameter. Approximate AWG–metric conversion does not prove a die will fit. If markings are missing, identify the cable and terminal from their supplier before selecting a tool.

Check the required profile, barrel wall thickness, crimp locations and die schedule. US/AWG and European/metric sizing are not certifications. Use the connector’s approved process for any applicable UL, DIN or IEC requirements.

Step 3 — Shop by operating method

Do not assume a long-handled tool can be stepped on or operated against an improvised floor support. Choose a documented operating method or a purpose-built bench model.

Compare models by terminal, profile and working range
Your connection / workflow Range to check Product family
Closed tubular lug · hex · portable AWG 8–1/0 or metric 6–50 mm² HX-50BI / HX-50B; IWS-50BN tool / kit
Closed tubular lug · fixed hex cavities AWG 8–1 / 8–1/0 / 1/0–4/0 by model IWS-0801C / 0810N / 1040S
Closed tubular lug · hex · interchangeable dies AWG 8–4/0 listed positions IWS-0840S kit
Closed tubular lug · hex · fixed bench AWG 8–1 or 1/0–4/0 by model IWS-0801DTS / 1040DTS
Closed tubular lug · indent · fixed bench AWG 8–4/0 or metric 6–120 mm² IWS-0840DT; IWS-06120DT
Copper tubular terminal · adjustable jaw 8–38 / 8–80 / 16–150 mm² by model CT-38 / CT-80 / CT-150 — verify required crimp geometry
Open-barrel terminal · handheld ratchet 14–11 or 11–8 AWG by model IWS-510 / IWS-1030
Open-barrel terminal · B crimp · long handle Select terminal dimensions and model range IWS-5100A / 8200A / 25500A
Open-barrel terminal · B crimp · fixed bench Select terminal group and cavity dimensions IWS-5100DT / 8200DT / 25500DT
Hex, B or point · manual bench options 6–70 mm² family; verify each die range IWS-70DT
Power-connector contact · handheld ratchet Exact contact part number; 8, 6, 4, 1/0 AWG positions IWS-50AP
Tubular lug · trapezoid · handheld ratchet 8, 6, 4, 2 AWG for AP-50BI AP-50BI — other AP options serve different terminals
Repeated assembly · pneumatic foot pedal 6–70 or 16–240 mm² family ranges AM-70; AM-240 — confirm profile, die sizes and air supply

Need cutting tools or consumables? Compare HX-50BI + cutter, IWS-50BN preparation kit and IWS-50BN with 63 lugs and 25 heat-shrink pieces. Package contents differ from crimper capacity.

Before checkout: the checks that prevent a wrong purchase

Confirm the selected model, exact die positions, crimp profile and package contents. A family’s maximum size is not the range of each variant. “Dies only” and “Cutter only” options do not include a complete crimper. Related models share a page; choose the required variant there.

For repeat production, validate a first sample using the terminal manufacturer’s dimensions and required retention or electrical checks. The strongest-looking or deepest crimp is not automatically the correct one.

Still unsure? Send three clear views: the cable printing, terminal side and wire-entry end, plus the terminal part number and expected workload. Ask for a tool-fit check.

Selection advice

Is an AWG-to-mm² conversion enough to select a die?

No. Lug wall thickness and barrel geometry also matter. Use the lug and tool specifications together and verify the finished crimp.

What does the displayed price include?

The price corresponds to the configuration named on the card. Product pages list the available options and package contents. Additional jaws, replacement parts and alternative kits may have different prices.
